Exercise Aurora
Details of the Exercise
September 2005
The HPA's Emergency Response Division (ERD) is running a series of
exercises to test emergency preparedness in the health service community,
as part of a training programme delivered on behalf of the Department of
Health. Each exercise involves co-ordinating a wide cross-section of
organisations on a national, regional and local level.
Exercise Aurora was a multi-agency, table-top influenza pandemic exercise
in Bradford, West Yorkshire. This exercise followed on from the successful
influenza exercises, Icarus (London) and Arctic Sea (East Midlands).
Objectives of the exercise:
-
to explore the responses in the region during a global influenza pandemic
lasting a number of months.
-
to test the formation of the RCCC (Regional Civil Contingencies
Committee) and RPHAT (Regional Public Health Advisory Team).
Observations arising from this exercise are being used to further develop
local, regional and national flu plans.
