Following the explosions at Buncefield Oil Storage Depot, Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire on 11 December 2005, an independent Major Incident Investigation Board (MIIB) was established and has overseen an extensive investigation into the causes of the accident and ways to avoid or mitigate against similar incidents in the future.
A report has today been published detailing the Government's and the Competent Authority's response to two of the MIIB's reports 'design and operation of fuel storage sites', and 'emergency preparedness for, response to and recovery from incidents'. The response describes progress made by site operators, the Competent Authority and Government to meet the recommendations in the MIIB’s reports.
