Emergencies
This section is a resource for practitioners who are carrying out specific
planning in relation to particular types of emergency. The emergencies have
been grouped into broad areas of risk which reflect the Government's
own risk assessment groupings.
Each page within this section sets out background to the types of risk, and
includes advice from Government on how to manage that risk. Where relevant,
UK plans or frameworks are included. Additional sources of external advice
are also linked.
Severe Weather, Flooding, Drought
Storms, flooding, gales, snow, high and low temperatures, climate change
and water shortages.
Human Health
Epidemics and pandemics which might affect humans, such as influenza.
Terrorism
Advice on malicious threats, including CBRN attack, and links to Home
Office and Security Service advice.
Transport Accidents
Train and road crashes, ferry accidents and aviation accidents.
Animal and Plant Diseases
Epidemics and pandemics which might affect animals and plants, such as foot
and mouth disease, rabies and karnal bunt.
Public Protest
Nationally co-ordinated protests and large localised protests.
International Events
International events causing disruption to essential services in the UK,
large scale repatriation of UK nationals or restrictions on overseas
travel.
Industrial Technical Failure
Technical failure of key utilities, including gas, water, electricity and
telecommunications.
Structural Failure
Emergencies which arise from land movements or structural failure in the
built environment.
